About

Returning the domain to the desk

Polar Bear Editing began as a working editor’s practice—fiction, memoir, critiques, covers, formatting—and a voice that was friendly, thorough, and unwilling to coddle weak pages.

Roots

The original Polar Bear brand was built by editor Jeannette Spohn around practical author services and craft writing: types of editing, beta-reader survival guides, NaNoWriMo, and the emotional reality of feedback. The mascot energy—Alexis—signaled that seriousness and personality can share a desk.

Over time the apex domain drifted (including a period redirecting to Empowery). This relaunch restores polarbearediting.com as what the name always promised: an editing brand and education hub.

What we believe

  • The right edit at the right stage beats a cheap pass at the wrong one
  • Authors deserve scopes they can plan cash flow around
  • Craft education should be free and honest—even when it delays a sale
  • Voice is not a bug to fix; unclarity is

What we do now

Professional services—developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, critiques, formatting—paired with a long-form content system designed to own the questions authors search every day.

Legacy essays from the WordPress and Medium years are being curated back into the journal. New cornerstone guides live under guides.
